I spent the last two days going to all the houses in Kuching.

 Last night, my family enjoyed a wonderful meal.


It was so wonderful it felt like a sequel from twilight...

New Moon.

In preparation for chinese new year, we went to none other then TESCO.


Well,






On new years,
dreams really do come true!

Belle got her ride after all.

and ice cream too.

Today was pretty hectic.


It went something like this.


Early in the morning....

Food preparation.

Lion dance.

Danced some more.

Cousins came.

We took some pictures.

Belle got itchy.

 Took more pictures.

Dog came.

Cousins played with dog.

Gambling!

All in all,
It was a lot of fun.


Though extremely hot.


And a lot of smiling.

Eventually the smile didn't look much like a smile anymore.

So we went up and changed.

shorts.

Smiling continued.










I love Chinese New Year.
It is great when families get together to give their best wishes to each other.

Despite all the hardships,

Loss of love ones,

Pain and suffering.

I know one day...

JAPAN WILL BE GREAT AGAIN.

Learned and earned.

Same Chicken.

Yet totally different.

Curry Chicken.

Flame-grilled chicken.

The difference arises from the cooking.
To be exact, the CULTURE behind the cooking.




Today being the day before sa-chap-meh (30th night before chinese new year),
it was a family custom to visit the house of my grandpa's sister.




They have one BIG family.

So we went,


and also paid homage to our ancestors.






Having a Nonya lineage, 


some of the preparation was done to reflect it.

My sister and I spent some time admiring the whole process.


....


It was long.




Then we got a bit tired.
And went to do something totally irrelevant.




sunbath our feet.

I may not fully understand our culture in terms of the rituals and customs.


Yet the beauty and significance of it all I cannot deny.




Be it the youngest,

or the oldest (no photos attatched.  heh  )


We all learn to embrace our culture.


From that we learn...

Learned and earned.
